Murad Ali Shah Slams Calls to Divide Sindh & Separate Karachi

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has strongly rejected statements demanding the division of Sindh or the separation of Karachi. He described such calls as harmful to national unity and stability. He emphasized that Sindh plays an important role in Pakistan’s history and development.

Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, Murad Ali Shah said that Sindh contributed significantly to the creation of Pakistan. He noted that the Sindh Assembly was already functioning in Karachi at that time. He accused groups behind division campaigns of trying to weaken national unity.

The chief minister recalled that similar concerns were raised in the past. He mentioned that in 1994, the Sindh Assembly passed a resolution to protect the province’s integrity. He said history shows repeated attempts to challenge Sindh’s unity.

Murad Ali Shah also explained that Karachi was declared the capital of Pakistan in 1948. At that time, there was no formal constitution. He added that under a constitutional system, major decisions require a two-thirds majority in the assembly.

He clarified that the current resolution focuses on protecting the unity of Sindh. Administrative issues related to Karachi can be discussed separately. He said opposing the resolution would mean supporting division.

Murad Ali Shah stressed that the resolution does not target any political party or individual. He urged lawmakers to read the document carefully before criticizing it. He called for responsible debate on sensitive matters.

Referring to history, he said Sindh remained separate after British rule before becoming part of the Bombay Presidency. The people of Sindh struggled to regain their distinct identity. He highlighted the importance of remembering this background.

He also mentioned President Asif Ali Zardari’s “Pakistan Khappay” slogan. He said the party stands firmly for Pakistan’s unity. According to him, any attempt to divide Sindh will fail.
