Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are reportedly close to signing a strategic economic deal, according to Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy. He made the announcement while speaking at an iftar dinner in Islamabad.
The ambassador said both countries are preparing a new strategic economic deal that will strengthen economic ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. โGod willing, we are preparing a new strategic economic plan between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The agreement will be signed soon,โ he added.
Ambassador Al-Malkiy highlighted that the upcoming deal reflects the growing cooperation between the two nations, following the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) signed in September 2025. He noted that Saudi Arabia considers its relationship with Pakistan very important and expects bilateral collaboration to continue expanding in both economic and defence sectors.
The event attracted a large gathering of political, diplomatic, and social figures. Key attendees included Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan. Other notable figures were Senator Muhammad Talha Mahmood, Minister of State for Interior Muhammad Tallal Badar, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and former MNA Khurram Dastgir Khan.
Senior bureaucrats, diplomats, journalists, business leaders, and members of the trade community were also present at the iftar dinner. The gathering highlighted the significance of PakistanโSaudi relations in various sectors.
The ambassador emphasized that the strategic economic deal will complement the defence cooperation already in place. The SMDA, signed in Riyadh last year, established a framework in which any aggression against one country would be considered an attack on both, strengthening joint deterrence.
Officials believe the new economic agreement will focus on investment, trade, and joint development projects. It is expected to provide a boost to Pakistanโs economy while enhancing Saudi Arabiaโs trade and strategic interests in the region.
The signing of the strategic economic deal is anticipated to take place soon, marking another milestone in the longstanding partnership between the two brotherly nations.
