Punjab Govt Launches Rs500 Million Fund to Support Deserving Artists

Punjab government has launched a new financial support program to help deserving artists across the province. The initiative includes a special fund worth Rs500 million aimed at improving the welfare and financial stability of artists.

The program is being introduced through the Punjab Artist Service Card. Officials say the card will provide regular financial support to eligible artists. Under the plan, approved artists will receive a monthly stipend of Rs5,000 to assist with their daily expenses.

Authorities confirmed that the program has already started its first phase. During this stage, 63 deserving artists received payments of Rs15,000 each as part of the initial support. The government plans to gradually expand the program to reach more artists across Punjab.

According to officials, stipend payments will be made through the Bank of Punjab to ensure transparency and efficiency. The government had invited applications earlier this year from artists seeking financial assistance.

As a result, a total of 2,702 applications were submitted for the program. After a detailed review process, 1,831 artists were declared eligible under the rules set by the government.

The verified data of eligible artists has been forwarded to the Punjab Social Protection Authority. Officials said the process of releasing funds has already begun for qualified applicants.

The support program also includes additional financial benefits for artists. Under the scheme, deserving individuals may receive an educational grant of Rs300,000 to support their children’s studies. A medical grant of Rs200,000 has also been allocated to help artists cover healthcare expenses.

In addition, the government has reserved Rs100,000 for other forms of financial assistance that artists may need during difficult circumstances.

Officials also revealed that further welfare measures are under consideration. A monthly pension of Rs10,000 to Rs15,000 is being planned for artists who are over the age of 80.

The Punjab government is also reviewing a special relief scheme for artists who are over 54 years old. The goal is to ensure long-term financial security for individuals who have contributed to cultural and artistic fields.
