FIR Filed Against Badshah Over Controversial ‘Tateeree’ Song

A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against rapper Badshah following controversy surrounding his new track, Tateeree. Authorities said the complaint highlights obscene lyrics and visuals that allegedly harm public decency.

The complaint claims that the song and its official video, released on Badshah’s YouTube channel, contain offensive language, gestures, and scenes of girls in school uniforms. Critics argue that the imagery and lyrics undermine social values and depict women in an objectionable manner.

Police confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 296 of the Indian Penal Code, which covers acts outraging public decency or disturbing social harmony. The investigation also involves Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, which prohibit the circulation of content showing women indecently.

The controversy gained traction after multiple social groups raised concerns. Savita Arya, president of the Nari Tu Narayani Utthan Samiti in Panipat, approached the Haryana State Women’s Commission for action against Tateeree.

Simultaneously, lawyer Rajnarayan Panghal from Rohtak filed a complaint with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, citing concerns over the portrayal of minors in the video.

Haryana State Women’s Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia confirmed that the panel has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter. A formal summons has been issued to Badshah, asking him to respond regarding the content of Tateeree.

Tateeree, a Haryanvi hip-hop single, was released on March 1, 2026. The track features rapper-singer Badshah alongside vocalist Simran Jaglan. The song has attracted millions of views online but has sparked debate about boundaries in music and public decency.

Authorities are reviewing the video and lyrics carefully before deciding on further legal action. Social activists argue that Tateeree crosses the line, while some fans defend it as artistic expression.

The FIR highlights growing concerns over digital content in India and the responsibilities of artists when creating music videos. Investigations are ongoing, and Badshah is expected to respond to the summons issued by the Women’s Commission.
