The Balochistan government has officially launched a bus service in Turbat, making it the second city after Quetta to receive modern public transport.
The Green Peoples Bus Service aims to provide safe, comfortable, and efficient travel for residents while improving urban mobility across the region. Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti inaugurated the bus service at the Circuit House in Turbat.
Provincial ministers, including Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, Mir Asghar Rind, and Asim Kurd Gello, attended the ceremony alongside other officials. CM Bugti said the initiative offers modern, secure, and reliable transport facilities, easing daily commuting for citizens.
โThis bus service will benefit not just Turbat city residents but also people across the entire Kech District,โ Bugti said. He credited provincial ministers and assembly members from Kech for their joint efforts.
Officials also announced plans for a Pink Bus Service dedicated to women to ensure safe travel for female passengers.
The new buses are equipped with modern features, including seating for 37 passengers and space for up to 100 including standing commuters. Initially, four buses have been deployed in Turbat.
Authorities plan to establish 18 bus stations across the city, with buses running along a 19-kilometer route connecting Turbat to nearby suburban areas. The service is expected to transport approximately 4,500 passengers daily.
The buses include designated seats for women, children, and senior citizens. They are wheelchair accessible and have emergency exits, fire extinguishers, automatic hydraulic doors, and digital screens displaying route and bus numbers.
Officials noted that final decisions on fares and additional routes will be made after assessing passenger travel patterns. There is also a proposal to provide free travel for the first two years of the bus service, encouraging more residents to adopt the system.
This launch represents a major step toward strengthening public transport infrastructure in Balochistan, improving urban mobility, and ensuring a safer, modern travel experience for citizens.
