Nadia Jamil Reveals Turning Down Veer-Zaara for Motherhood

Pakistani actress Nadia Jamil recently revealed that she declined a major Bollywood opportunity to care for her newborn child. The revelation came during a Ramadan special on a private TV channel, where she discussed motherhood and her early career choices.

Jamil shared that she was approached for a role in the Bollywood blockbuster Veer-Zaara, directed by Yash Chopra and starring Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta. The discussions were nearly finalised when she received the offer.

“I was offered a role in Veer-Zaara, and the project was almost finalised,” said Nadia Jamil. She explained that her son was only three months old at the time, and she wanted to be with him during those early months.

“My baby was just three months old, and I did not want to leave him. I felt I needed to be with him,” she added. Despite strong encouragement from her family, including her mother and in-laws who offered to support her during the shoot, she chose to prioritize her child.

“People told me that saying no to such a big film could harm my career, but I chose to stay with my child,” Jamil said. The role she was offered eventually went to Rani Mukerji, who played the character Saamiya Siddiqui in the 2004 film.

Nadia Jamil remains one of Pakistan’s most respected television actors. She began her career in the 1990s and gained fame for her performances in dramas such as Dhoop Mein Sawan, Meri Jaan, and Raqs‑e‑Bismil. Her work in the telefilm Behadd alongside Fawad Khan also received critical acclaim.
