Pakistan Railways To Run Special Trains For Eidul Fitr 2026

Pakistan Railways To Run Special Trains For Eidul Fitr 2026

Pakistan Railways has announced the operation of four special trains during the Eidul Fitr 2026 holidays. The decision aims to facilitate passengers traveling to their hometowns for the festival.

The first special train will depart from Lahore to Karachi on 16 March. The second train is scheduled from Quetta to Rawalpindi on 17 March. On the same day, a third special train will run from Karachi to Peshawar. The fourth train will operate from Karachi to Lahore on 18 March.

Railway officials said the move is designed to provide convenience for passengers during the busy festive period. The trains will help avoid overcrowding and ensure safer, smoother travel for families.

According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), Eidul Fitr 2026 is likely to be observed on Saturday, 21 March. Astronomical calculations indicate that the Shawwal moon will be born on 19 March at 6:23 AM. By sunset, its age will be around 12 hours and 41 minutes.

SUPARCO added that, along Pakistanโ€™s coastal areas, the difference between sunset and moonset will be about 28 minutes on 19 March. Despite this, the chances of seeing the Shawwal crescent that evening are low. Based on these calculations, the first day of Shawwal 1447 AH is expected on 21 March, marking Eidul Fitr.

In addition to travel arrangements, provincial governments have announced advance payment of salaries and pensions for government employees and pensioners. The Finance Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa confirmed that salaries and pensions for March will be disbursed on 16 March instead of 1 April.

This advance payment aims to help families prepare for Eidul Fitr 2026, alongside the convenience provided by the special trains. Authorities advise passengers to book tickets early due to expected high demand during the holiday season.

With these measures, Pakistan Railways and provincial governments are ensuring a smooth and festive Eid experience for citizens across the country.
