LAHORE โ Maryam Nawaz has ordered a strict crackdown on transporters charging excessive fares during the Eid holiday. She emphasized that exploitation of passengers, especially the poor, will not be tolerated.
The Chief Minister directed the Transport Department and local authorities to take legal action against transporters charging above the fixed fare. All districts in Punjab have been instructed to implement fare regulations and maintain continuous monitoring during Eid.
โExploitation of poor passengers returning home on Eid will not be allowed,โ Maryam Nawaz said, highlighting the need for strict enforcement.
Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with strict monitoring. Violators will face ticket blacklisting. Authorities are also instructed to display fares clearly at all bus stands to prevent overcharging.
Passenger Welfare Measures
In addition to fare enforcement, Maryam Nawaz focused on passenger welfare and safety during the holiday season:
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitation at bus stands.
- Provide adequate seating and fans in waiting areas.
- Arrange Iftar meals for fasting passengers during Eid.
- Monitor and prevent the presence of anti-social elements in markets and bazaars.
These measures aim to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience for passengers. Authorities have been asked to maintain a visible presence to reassure travelers and provide timely assistance if needed.
Officials say these steps are part of a broader initiative to protect citizens from exploitation and enhance public safety during major festivals. The Chief Minister called on all transport operators to cooperate and follow the rules strictly.
By enforcing these regulations, Maryam Nawaz hopes to make Eid travel more convenient, safe, and affordable for everyone in Punjab, particularly vulnerable groups who rely on public transportation.
