The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has urged Muslims to observe the Shawal moon on the evening of Ramadan 29, March 18. The sighting will determine the official start of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.
Authorities encouraged anyone spotting the Shawal moon, whether with the naked eye or binoculars, to report their observation to the nearest court or local centers. Verified sightings help document testimonies and ensure a coordinated announcement.
The court also invited citizens to join official moon-sighting committees across the Kingdom. Participation in these committees promotes community cooperation and supports the wider Muslim population.
The appearance of the Shawal moon marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid-ul-Fitr. Eid prayers are traditionally offered the following morning after sunrise, followed by festive celebrations.
Meanwhile, in Pakistan, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on March 19 to sight the Shawal moon. The meeting will be chaired by committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad and will include scholars from all schools of thought, meteorological experts, and officials from relevant departments.
The committee will review moon-sighting reports submitted from across Pakistan before announcing the official Eid date. Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also hold meetings in major cities to examine local observations. These findings will then be submitted to the central committee for verification.
Officials emphasized the importance of accurate moon sightings to maintain unity in celebrating Eid. The process ensures that Muslims in all regions follow a consistent calendar for Eid prayers and festivities.
Both Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are taking steps to involve citizens and scholars in the Shawal moon observation process. This collaborative approach ensures transparency and allows communities to participate actively in determining the Eid date.
The upcoming sightings of the Shawal moon will conclude the holy month of Ramadan and usher in joyous Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations across the Muslim world. Communities are preparing for prayers, gatherings, and festive events immediately after the moon is confirmed.
