A powerful weather system hit Karachi, causing widespread damage and loss of life. The Storm leaves a devastating impact, with the death toll in Mawach Goth rising to 11, rescue officials confirmed.
Authorities said all victims were drug users. Their bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for legal procedures. Officials are still assessing the full extent of the tragedy.
The Storm leaves chaos across the city after heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms struck on Wednesday night. Roads were flooded, traffic was severely affected, and electricity outages were reported in many areas. Residents faced difficult and dangerous conditions throughout the night.
Earlier reports had mentioned one death and eight injuries after a wall collapsed in Mawach Goth. However, the situation worsened as more casualties were confirmed later. The rising toll highlights the intensity of the storm.
Several parts of the city were badly affected. Areas like Saddar, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Bahadurabad, and Shahrah-e-Faisal experienced heavy rain and strong winds. Flooded streets and fallen trees created major disruptions.
In Clifton, at least five people were injured when a tree fell due to strong winds. Rescue teams responded quickly and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals.
Weather experts have warned that the situation may not improve soon. The Pakistan Meteorological Department stated that the same system remains active. More rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected in the coming days.
The forecast also includes possible hailstorms in some parts of Sindh. Cities such as Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Thatta may face similar conditions.
The Storm leaves authorities on high alert as another weather system is expected between March 24 and 27. Light rain is also predicted on the first day of Eid.
Officials have advised citizens to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. People living in low-lying areas have been urged to take extra precautions.
The recent storm has once again exposed the cityโs vulnerability to extreme weather. Authorities continue rescue and relief efforts as Karachi braces for more unstable conditions.
