Eidul-Fitr 2026 Celebrated in Parts of Peshawar Today Without Official Moon Sighting

PESHAWAR: Reports of early celebrations of Eidul-Fitr 2026 have emerged from the Safed Sang area on the outskirts of Peshawar. The development has sparked fresh debate, as there has been no official confirmation of the Shawwal moon sighting.

According to details, March 19 marks the 29th day of Ramadan in Pakistan. A key meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled in Islamabad today. Authorities have completed all arrangements for the session. The nation is waiting for an official announcement regarding Eidul-Fitr 2026.

Meanwhile, several videos have surfaced on social media from Safed Sang. These clips show local residents offering Eid prayers. People can also be seen exchanging greetings and celebrating the occasion. Reports claim that the Shawwal moon was sighted locally, which led to the early observance of Eidul-Fitr 2026 in the area.

However, these claims have not been verified by reliable or official sources. This has raised concerns about the authenticity of the local moon sighting. Religious authorities have not endorsed these reports so far. Officials have urged the public to wait for the formal announcement.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee plays a key role in confirming the moon sighting in Pakistan. Its decision is considered final for the country. The meeting in Islamabad is expected to review testimonies from across the country. Experts and religious scholars will participate in the process.

It is also important to note that Saudi Arabia and several other Arab countries made an announcement earlier. They confirmed that the Shawwal moon was not sighted. As a result, Eid al-Fitr will be observed there on Friday, March 20.
