Pakistan Condemns Life Sentence For Aasiya Andrabi’s Associates

Pakistan Condemns Life Sentence For Aasiya Andrabi’s Associates

Pakistan has strongly rejected the life imprisonment sentence awarded to Aasiya Andrabi’s by a Delhi court. Her two associates, Fehmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen, were also given 30-year jail terms under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The Foreign Office described the verdict as a grave miscarriage of justice. Officials said it highlights ongoing suppression of fundamental rights in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Authorities in Pakistan view Aasiya Andrabi’s sentencing as part of a broader pattern of politically motivated prosecutions. The move is seen as an attempt to silence dissent and intimidate those advocating for the rights of the Kashmiri people.

Human rights experts warn that the decision raises serious concerns about due process and judicial independence. The verdict also reflects a shrinking space for political expression and civil liberties in IIOJK.

Aasiya Andrabi’s long-standing advocacy for the Kashmir cause has made her a prominent figure. Pakistan said her conviction underscores the challenges faced by those seeking to defend the legitimate rights of Kashmiris.

The Foreign Office urged the international community, including the United Nations and human rights organizations, to take immediate notice of the ruling. Pakistan called on these bodies to hold India accountable for actions in IIOJK.

Officials emphasized the need to protect the political, social, and human rights of the Kashmiri people. This includes safeguarding freedom of expression and ensuring fair trials for all political activists.

Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The country stressed that the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination is supported under relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

The sentencing of Aasiya Andrabi’s and her associates is expected to further strain regional tensions. Pakistan warned that such actions could undermine prospects for peace and stability in South Asia.
