LESCO Increases Charges for New Electricity Meters

LESCO Increases Charges for New Electricity Meters

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has announced a significant increase in fees for new electricity meters and associated services. According to a recent notification, consumers will now have to pay Rs 17,700 for the meter and cable, along with Rs 3,600 as security charges.

Previously, new power consumers were required to pay only Rs 4,000 for the meter and Rs 2,400 for security deposits. Sources within LESCO revealed that the revised charges have greatly benefited the company, resulting in a substantial increase in revenue from new connections.

Additional Costs for Consumers

Besides the meter and security charges, applicants must also pay the contractorโ€™s fee and other miscellaneous charges, pushing the total cost significantly higher than earlier rates. According to insiders, the overall amount for new connections has increased manifold compared to previous payments.

Internal Debate Within LESCO

LESCO officials reportedly opposed the fee hike initially. However, the decision was finalized after the chairman and board members insisted on implementing the increase. Sources confirmed that the new charges are effective immediately, and all applicants for new connections are now required to deposit the revised amounts.

The move has drawn attention from consumer groups, who have expressed concerns over the rising cost of electricity connections and its impact on households and small businesses.
