Punjab Public Schools Begin New Academic Year With Shorter Summer Holidays

Punjab Public Schools Begin New Academic Year With Shorter Summer Holidays

The Punjab government officially launched the new academic year in public schools across the province on April 1. Reports indicate shorter summer holidays for students this year, aimed at improving learning outcomes.

Authorities said around 30 million free textbooks will be distributed to students during the current academic year. Students in grades one to three will receive 100% of their textbooks free of cost. Grades four and five will get 80% of books, while grades six through nine will receive 50%. Grade ten students will be provided with all required textbooks.

In addition, the school book bank system will ensure students who miss books can still access learning materials. Officials stressed that this initiative aims to reduce educational costs for families and support a smoother start to the school year.

The provincial government also hinted at lowering commercial electricity tariffs for public schools. The step is expected to reduce operational costs and provide financial relief to educational institutions.

According to reports, Punjab plans to announce a two-month summer vacation for students. These vacations are expected to be shorter summer holidays compared to previous years. Education officials said the change will allow students to complete the curriculum on time and prepare effectively for upcoming exams.

Winter holidays are also set to take place in January, with adjustments made due to changes in weather patterns. The government emphasized that maintaining academic schedules while offering adequate rest periods remains a priority.

Students, teachers, and parents are advised to check official school notices for exact holiday dates and textbook distribution schedules. Officials believe that the combination of shorter summer holidays and free textbooks will improve educational outcomes across Punjab.

This move reflects the provincial governmentโ€™s commitment to enhancing education quality and providing equitable learning resources to millions of students.
