Babar Azam addressed ongoing comparisons with Virat Kohli after leading Peshawar Zalmi to a dramatic last-ball victory over Hyderabad Kingsmen in PSL 11 at the National Stadium, Karachi.
Speaking after the match, Babar appeared slightly frustrated when asked about comparisons with Kohli, particularly regarding finishing abilities. He chose to shift attention toward match awareness and team requirements rather than individual rivalries.
The Zalmi captain explained that finishing games depends heavily on match situations, including pitch conditions, required run rate, and team strategy. He emphasized that adapting to circumstances is more important than comparing players from different teams or formats.
Babar noted that batting under pressure is rarely straightforward, adding that even when pitches appear easy, execution can become difficult. He said shots sometimes fail to find gaps despite proper timing, making patience and clarity essential during tense moments.
He further stated that he focuses on his strengths and long-term improvement, highlighting that development as a finisher takes time. According to Babar, he has successfully finished many matches in the past, even if public perception occasionally suggests otherwise.
Earlier in the match, Hyderabad Kingsmen, led by Marnus Labuschagne, were bowled out for 145 in 18.2 overs after struggling against Zalmi’s spin attack. Kusal Perera top-scored with 58 off 35 balls, while Labuschagne contributed 27 runs.
In response, Peshawar Zalmi completed the chase on the final ball of the innings. Iftikhar Ahmed and Aamer Jamal held their nerve at the end, while Babar Azam anchored the innings with 43 runs. Contributions from Kusal Mendis and Michael Bracewell ensured Zalmi crossed the line in a thrilling finish.
