The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a one-month waiver of schedule tax and stand tax for the transport sector to provide relief to passengers.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Riaz Khan Mehsud, who also serves as Chairman of the Regional Transport Authority.
Under the new directive, both taxes have been waived across all districts, with transporters instructed to pass the full benefit to the public by reducing fares accordingly.
Authorities have issued strict instructions to ensure implementation. Three assistant commissioners will be deployed in each district to monitor fares at transport stands and major highways.
Deputy commissioners have also been directed to personally supervise field operations to prevent overcharging and ensure compliance with government orders.
Transporters must display official fare lists prominently on vehicles so passengers can easily verify approved rates and avoid being overcharged.
The move aims to ensure uniform fare reduction across the province and provide maximum relief to citizens amid rising transportation costs.
