Karachi Board Clarifies Policy On Wearing Burqas During Exams

Karachi Board Clarifies Policy On Wearing Burqas During Exams

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has issued new guidelines for ongoing matric examinations. The board confirmed that female students wearing burqas will not be asked to remove them at exam centers.

BSEK Chairman Ghulam Hussain stated that no complaints of cheating involving female students have been reported so far. Based on this, the board decided there is no need to change current rules regarding wearing burqas or abayas.

He also warned that strict action will be taken if any staff member forces students to remove their veils. The chairman emphasized that respecting studentsโ€™ privacy and religious practices remains important.

In addition, the board has directed that male invigilators should not be assigned to female exam centers. This step aims to ensure a comfortable and secure environment for students, especially those wearing burqas during exams.

The annual matric exams for 9th and 10th classes began last week across Karachi. However, students have reported several issues at different centers. Many complained about a lack of basic facilities, including proper seating and cooling arrangements.

At Malir Government Boys Secondary School, students had to take exams in extreme heat. There were no fans available, which made conditions difficult for candidates. Such problems raised concerns about overall exam management.

Despite these challenges, the board continues to focus on maintaining discipline and fairness. Officials said that policies like allowing wearing burqas without restrictions help build trust among students and parents.

Meanwhile, another issue has added to the concerns. Reports claimed that the Computer Studies paper for the morning shift was leaked. This has raised questions about exam security and transparency.

Authorities have said they are investigating the matter. They aim to identify those responsible and prevent such incidents in the future.

The BSEK has assured students that all necessary steps will be taken to improve exam conditions. It also reiterated that rules regarding wearing burqas will remain unchanged unless serious concerns arise.

The board urged students to focus on their exams and report any issues to the authorities immediately.
