Islamabad Imposes New Timings for Markets and Businesses

Islamabad Imposes New Hours for Markets and Businesses

Islamabad has come under sweeping new restrictions as authorities enforce early closing hours across markets, businesses, and recreational venues under a major austerity policy shift. The move is already reshaping daily life and economic activity in the capital.

Under the new directives, all shops, markets, and shopping malls must close by 8:00 PM, including weekends. However, essential services such as pharmacies, hospitals, diagnostic labs, petrol pumps, CNG stations, and dairy shops are exempt and will continue operating without interruption.

The restrictions also apply to restaurants, hotels, bakeries, grocery stores, butcher shops, fruit and vegetable vendors, and traditional tandoors, all of which must shut down by 10:00 PM. Despite this, takeaway and home delivery services will still be allowed beyond closing hours, providing some relief to businesses and consumers.

Wedding halls, marquees, and event venues are now required to end all functions by 10:00 PM, with the rule extending even to private events. This marks a significant tightening of regulations on social gatherings and celebrations across the city.

In addition, gyms, sports clubs, and fitness centres must close by 8:00 PM, limiting evening recreational activities and further contributing to the reduced nightlife in the capital.

The directive has been circulated to key institutions, including the Islamabad Police, Capital Development Authority, Ministry of Interior, and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority to ensure strict enforcement and public awareness.

With these measures now in effect, Islamabad is experiencing a major shift toward early shutdowns, significantly reducing nightlife, altering business operations, and redefining urban activity patterns under the governmentโ€™s austerity drive.
