The National Database and Registration Authority has simplified the process of obtaining firearms licenses in Punjab by introducing biometric verification through the Pak ID mobile application. The move is aimed at improving efficiency and accessibility for citizens.
Under the updated system, applicants can now submit their requests through the official Punjab Firearms License website and complete biometric verification directly using the Pak ID app, removing the need for physical visits and reducing procedural delays.
Previously, citizens faced difficulties due to manual verification requirements and complex steps. The new digital system is expected to streamline the entire process, making it faster, more transparent, and user-friendly for applicants across the province.
The Punjab Home Department had issued a notification in November 2025 suspending all manual and institutional firearms license processes, including renewals and computerization, as part of a broader regulatory overhaul.
Under the revised directives, holders of old manual licenses were given a final opportunity to convert them into computerized versions. At the same time, all previous instructions related to licensing procedures were formally withdrawn.
Authorities also sought detailed reports from divisional commissioners and judicial additional secretaries regarding licenses computerized between March and November. Updates were requested on illegal arms recovery and progress in the province-wide deweaponization campaign.
The initiative is expected to improve oversight, enhance record accuracy, and support law enforcement efforts by ensuring a fully digitized and verifiable firearms licensing system in Punjab.
