Pakistan Announces New Test Squad For Bangladesh Series

Pakistan Announces New Test Squad For Bangladesh Series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a new Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh. The series is scheduled to be played from May 8 to 12 and May 16 to 20. The announcement reflects a fresh approach to red-ball cricket.

The new Test squad includes 18 players, with several new faces earning their first call-ups. Abdullah Fazal, Azan Awais, Amad Butt, and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori have been included for the first time. Their selection brings new energy and talent into the team.

From the previous series against South Africa, 11 players have retained their places. These include senior names like Shan Masood, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Saud Shakeel are also part of the squad.

However, several players have been dropped from the Test squad. These include Abrar Ahmed, Kamran Ghulam, Rohail Nazir, and Abdullah Shafique. Selectors have aimed to rebuild the team with a balance of experience and young talent.

Veteran fast bowler Mohammad Abbas has also returned to the Test squad. He brings valuable experience, having performed well in county cricket in England. His inclusion is expected to strengthen the bowling attack.

The full Test squad will begin training in Karachi from April 27. Players participating in the Pakistan Super League will join after their franchise commitments. The camp will continue until May 1 before the team departs for Bangladesh on May 2.

A new coaching setup has also been announced alongside the squad. Former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed will serve as head coach. Asad Shafiq has been appointed batting coach, while Umar Gul will handle bowling duties. This marks a new direction for Pakistanโ€™s Test setup.

Selectors believe the new Test squad will help build long-term stability in red-ball cricket. The combination of experienced players and young talent is aimed at improving future performances.

Overall, the announcement of the Test squad shows Pakistanโ€™s focus on rebuilding and preparing for tough international challenges ahead.
