A major blockade on Grand Trunk Road disrupted public and goods transport in Gujranwala and Gujrat on Monday due to VVIP movement toward Islamabad.
Authorities halted buses, coasters, and vans, leaving hundreds of goods vehicles, including container carriers, stranded along the roadside for hours. However, private cars and jeeps were allowed to continue travel.
The suspension of transport services had already been enforced from Sunday night across multiple districts, including Wazirabad, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, and Jhelum.
Transport operators kept vehicles parked at bus stands, while some buses traveling from Lahore to Islamabad and Rawalpindi were forced to offload passengers midway in Gujranwala.
Stranded passengers arranged alternative travel through private cars and rickshaws on shared fares, increasing travel costs and inconvenience for many commuters.
Officials from the National Highways and Motorway Police and Punjab Traffic Police set up barricades along the highway at intervals of 10 to 20 kilometers to enforce the restrictions.
