Karachi Launches Digital Water Monitoring System For Better Supply Control

Karachi Launches Digital Water Monitoring System For Better Supply Control

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has introduced a new citywide system to improve water management. The project focuses on digital water monitoring to modernize the cityโ€™s aging water supply network.

Officials said the new initiative aims to improve transparency and efficiency. It also supports data-based decision-making in water distribution. The system will allow real-time tracking of water flow across Karachi.

The project is part of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP). It is supported by the Sindh government and funded by the World Bank. The goal is to solve long-standing issues in water supply management.

These issues include unequal distribution, water losses, and weak billing systems. Authorities believe digital water monitoring will help reduce these problems. It will also ensure fair use of available water resources.

Under the plan, around 100 monitoring chambers have been installed across key areas. These chambers help regulate and measure water flow. The system is designed to improve overall control of the supply network.

For the first time in Pakistan, advanced ultrasonic flow meters are being used. These devices measure water flow using sound wave technology. They provide highly accurate readings for better system control.

Key installation sites include major water points in Karachi. These include Ajmer Pump House, Nagan Chowrangi, Banaras Pump House, and Korangi Model Park. Other locations include Hub Reservoir, NEK Reservoir, and Gharo Pumping Station.

During the pilot phase, 43 important locations are being equipped with bulk flow meters. This step is part of the broader digital water monitoring rollout. It will help test system accuracy and performance.

Officials said the system will generate real-time data. This will help detect shortages and reduce water wastage. It will also support fair distribution among residential, commercial, and industrial users.

The introduction of digital water monitoring is seen as a major upgrade for Karachiโ€™s water system. Authorities expect it to improve planning and service delivery in the long term.

Overall, the project marks an important step toward modern water management. The use of digital water monitoring is expected to bring greater efficiency and transparency to the cityโ€™s water supply network.
