Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho has announced strict action against vehicles operating without number plates, stating that violators will now face FIRs instead of routine traffic challans. The decision comes as part of an intensified crackdown aimed at improving law enforcement and strengthening road discipline across Karachi and other parts of Sindh. Authorities say the new measures are designed to discourage repeated violations and ensure better compliance with traffic regulations.
According to the police chief, enforcement efforts have been significantly increased across Karachi, with law enforcement agencies actively using Safe City surveillance cameras to identify and track traffic violators. The integration of technology into policing has allowed authorities to monitor road activity more effectively and take immediate action against those breaking the law. Officials believe this approach will improve transparency and reduce manual errors in enforcement.
The IGP also highlighted that the number of surveillance cameras in Karachi has seen a major increase, rising from 30,000 to 40,000 units. This expansion is part of a broader effort to strengthen the city’s monitoring system and improve overall public safety. He further urged traders and citizens to install additional cameras at commercial and residential locations to support law enforcement efforts and enhance surveillance coverage.
Odho noted that Sindh has aligned its e-challan fines with Punjab’s traffic penalty structure, while also pointing out that fines in Punjab have recently been increased further. This alignment is aimed at creating consistency in traffic enforcement across provinces and ensuring that penalties remain effective in discouraging violations.
Officials stated that the overall objective of these steps is to improve compliance with traffic laws and promote safer roads across Sindh. By combining stricter penalties with advanced surveillance technology, authorities hope to create a more disciplined traffic environment, reduce illegal activity, and enhance public safety in urban areas like Karachi.
