A serious robbery case has been reported near Karachi airport involving digital currency theft. The victim was allegedly deprived of $8,600 along with personal belongings.
According to initial reports, the incident took place when the victim was traveling to Lahore. He left his home on Wednesday night using an online taxi service. During the journey, the driver stopped at a petrol station.
At that point, four armed men reportedly approached the vehicle. They forced the victim into a double-cabin pickup truck. The group then took control of the situation.
The victim was allegedly held inside the vehicle for more than an hour. During this time, the attackers accessed his digital currency account. They reportedly transferred $8,600 from his wallet.
The suspects also stole the victim’s mobile phone, laptop, and other valuables. Officials say the robbery was carried out in a planned manner. The use of digital currency in the crime has raised further concern.
After the incident, the attackers reportedly assaulted the victim. They later abandoned him in the Korangi area before escaping the scene. The victim managed to reach safety and inform his family.
The victim’s father shared details of the incident with the media. He said his son was traveling for work when the robbery occurred. He also stated that the Airport Police Station has not yet received a formal complaint.
Authorities have not issued an official statement so far. Investigations are expected once a formal report is filed.
Security experts say crimes involving digital currency are becoming more complex. Criminals are increasingly targeting online financial accounts along with physical theft.
