Sindh Moves To Include Hindu Religious Education in School Curriculum For Hindu Students

The Sindh Education Department has approved a new step to support minority education. Hindu religious textbooks will now be included in the curriculum for Hindu students in public schools across the province.

Officials confirmed that three Hindu religious books will be introduced for students in Grades III to V. These textbooks will be part of the academic year 2026โ€“27. The decision was made during a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Sindh Curriculum Council on April 20, 2026.

The aim of this move is to provide Hindu students with education based on their own beliefs. Authorities said this step will help students better understand their faith. It also supports equal learning opportunities for all communities.

The initiative follows directions from Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah. The government wants to promote inclusive education in public schools. Officials believe that adding Hindu religious content will help create a more balanced curriculum.

Under the plan, the Sindh Textbook Board will manage the distribution of the books. For the current academic year, a Hindu welfare group, Prem Sagar Sanstha Karachi, has received permission to publish these textbooks. This ensures that the content is accurate and reflects the religious teachings properly.

Officials also stated that the Sindh Textbook Board will provide funding for these books in the next academic year. This will support regular publication and availability of Hindu religious materials for students.

The textbooks will be distributed to Hindu students enrolled in government schools across Sindh. At present, more than 129,000 Hindu students are studying in public schools in the province. The highest numbers are reported in Tharparkar, with 26,642 students, and Umerkot, with 21,584 students.

Education officials stressed that this step is part of a broader effort to support minority rights. By including Hindu religious education, the department aims to create a more inclusive system. This approach allows students to learn about their own traditions in a formal setting.

Overall, the introduction of Hindu religious textbooks marks an important development in Sindhโ€™s education policy. It reflects a growing focus on diversity and equal access to learning for all students.
