The Punjab government has announced a major expansion of Sahulat Bazaars across the province. The initiative aims to reduce the impact of rising inflation on citizens. New markets will be set up in 27 cities.
Officials confirmed that these Sahulat Bazaars will become operational from July 1. This will mark the start of the new fiscal year. The government also plans to introduce mobile markets under the “Sahulat on the Go” model.
A total of 13 mobile markets will be launched in different districts. These mobile units will help reach more people in urban and rural areas. The goal is to improve access to affordable daily-use items.
Affordable Prices for Essential Goods
Authorities said the Sahulat Bazaars will offer fruits and vegetables at significantly lower prices. Items will be up to 40 percent cheaper than the open market. Prices will also be around 18 percent lower than official deputy commissioner rates.
The government also plans free home delivery services. This service will be available within a five-kilometre radius. It is designed to support elderly and low-income households.
Cities Included in the Expansion Plan
New Sahulat Bazaars will be established in several districts. These include Bhakkar, Mianwali, Pakpattan, Rajanpur, and Muzaffargarh. Other areas include Mandi Bahauddin, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Jhelum.
Additional cities such as Khanewal, Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh are also included. Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Sialkot, Gujrat, and Sargodha will also benefit from the scheme.
Officials say the selection aims to cover both urban and semi-urban populations. This will ensure wider access to affordable goods through Sahulat Bazaars.
Mobile Markets to Increase Accessibility
The “Sahulat on the Go” mobile markets will operate in selected areas. These include Lahore, Jhelum, Bhakkar, Rawalpindi, Kasur, and Faisalabad.
Deputy commissioners have been instructed to finalize locations quickly. All arrangements must be completed by June 30.
Budget and Future Planning
Funding for the project will be included in the Punjab budget for fiscal year 2026-27. The government says this initiative is part of long-term relief efforts.
Officials believe Sahulat Bazaars will help stabilize prices and support low-income families. The project is also expected to improve food accessibility across the province.
