Pakistan Collects Over Rs1,200 Billion in Petroleum Levy in Last 9 Months

Pakistanโ€™s petroleum levy collections have surged past Rs1,200 Billion, marking a historic high in government revenue from fuel sales. The increase comes amid rising petrol prices and growing public concern.

Officials report that the petroleum levy has now become one of the fastest-growing revenue sources in the country. The trend has continued steadily over the past several fiscal years.

During the first nine months of the current fiscal year, collections reached record levels. Data from the Ministry of Finance shows that Rs1,200 Billion was collected between July 2025 and March 2026.

This represents the highest-ever nine-month collection in Pakistanโ€™s history. The sharp rise reflects continuous increases in fuel prices and higher consumption-based taxation.

Compared to the previous year, the revenue has increased significantly. Last year, collections stood at around 833 billion rupees for the same period.

Officials said the difference highlights a major jump in fuel-related taxation. The government has benefited from consistent upward adjustments in petroleum levies.

In addition to the main levy, an extra carbon levy also contributed to total revenue. Around 37 billion rupees were collected under this category during the same period.

The overall fiscal target for petroleum levy income has been set even higher. Authorities aim to collect Rs1,468 Billion in the 2025โ€“26 financial year.

Experts say the continued rise in Rs1,200 Billion level collections reflects both higher fuel prices and policy-driven revenue expansion. However, it has also increased financial pressure on consumers.

Over the past few years, petroleum levy figures have shown steady growth. In FY 2024โ€“25, collections reached 1,220 billion rupees. In FY 2023โ€“24, they stood at 1,019 billion rupees.

Earlier, in FY 2022โ€“23, the total was significantly lower at 580 billion rupees. This shows a sharp upward trend in recent years.

With Rs1,200 Billion already collected in just nine months, officials expect further increases before the fiscal year ends. The final figures are likely to surpass previous records once again.
