US President Donald Trump concluded his official visit to China on Friday without securing major trade agreements or clear support from Beijing regarding the Iran conflict. The visit focused on improving relations between the worldโs two largest economies, but several important issues remained unresolved.
During the two-day summit in Beijing, Trump leaves China after holding meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The discussions included trade, Taiwan, Iran, and economic cooperation. Despite positive public remarks from both leaders, no major policy breakthrough was announced.
Trump praised Xi Jinping throughout the visit and described the meetings as productive. At their final meeting in the Zhongnanhai leadership complex, Trump said the trip had been successful and helpful for future relations. However, analysts noted that concrete results were limited.
One of the key issues discussed was the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Trump had hoped China would use its influence to support peace efforts. However, officials did not announce any direct Chinese commitment regarding Iran. As Trump leaves Beijing, experts believe China is unlikely to pressure Tehran strongly due to its strategic interests in the region.
Chinaโs Foreign Ministry also called for peace and stability in the Middle East. Officials warned that the conflict had affected global energy markets and supply chains. Both countries reportedly agreed on the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for trade.
Trade talks were another major focus of the summit. Trump claimed China agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft. However, investors expected a larger agreement. Boeing shares later declined after the announcement failed to meet market expectations.
US officials also mentioned agreements involving farm products and future trade discussions. Still, details remained limited. Important issues, including restrictions on rare earth exports and advanced technology sales, were not resolved before Trump leaves the country.
Taiwan also emerged as a sensitive topic during the visit. President Xi warned that mishandling Taiwan could create serious conflict between the two nations. The United States later confirmed that its policy toward Taiwan had not changed.
Despite disagreements, both leaders highlighted the importance of stable relations. Xi Jinping said cooperation between China and the United States remains essential for global stability.
Although Trump leaves China without major breakthroughs, both sides presented the visit as a step toward maintaining communication and reducing tensions in future negotiations.
