The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a new digital feature for citizens. It allows users to control access to their biometric data through the Pak ID mobile application.
The feature is called โBlock Biometric Data Access.โ It gives users full authority to restrict biometric verification without their permission. This includes fingerprints and facial recognition systems used at various service points.
Officials said the move is designed to improve the protection of sensitive personal information. With this system, biometric data cannot be used unless the user temporarily allows access through the app.
Once activated, the feature blocks verification at banks, offices, and other institutions. No system can access biometric data unless permission is granted by the user.
NADRA explained that citizens can easily enable the feature through the Pak ID app. Users need to log in, open profile settings, and select โBlock Biometric Data Access.โ Some devices may require additional fingerprint or face verification.
The authority also said users can disable the feature whenever verification is required. After completing the process, they can reactivate it to maintain security.
According to NADRA, this system ensures that control over biometric data remains fully with the individual. It helps prevent unauthorized access and misuse of identity information.
Officials added that the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen digital security. The feature is expected to increase public trust in biometric systems used across the country.
NADRA has also released an instructional video to guide users. The video explains step-by-step how to activate and manage the feature on mobile devices.
Authorities said protecting biometric data is a key priority in the digital identity system. They believe the new feature will help citizens feel safer while using government and private services.
The update marks an important step in giving individuals more control over personal identity systems. It also supports stronger data privacy measures in Pakistanโs growing digital infrastructure.
