Polling Underway for By-Elections on 13 Local Government Seats in Sindh

Voting is currently underway for by-Elections on 13 local government seats across different districts of Sindh, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Officials said polling started at 8:00 am and will continue until 4:00 pm without any break.

The by-Elections are taking place in nine districts of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Dadu, Sujawal, Sukkur, Naushahro Feroze, Mirpurkhas, Jacobabad, and Ghotki.

According to the Election Commission, voting is being held for several local government positions. These include five district council member seats, two chairman seats, two vice-chairman seats, and four general ward member seats.

Authorities said security arrangements have been tightened to ensure peaceful Elections in all polling areas.

The Election Commission confirmed that a total of 98,808 voters are registered for the by-Elections. Among them are 53,832 male voters and 44,976 female voters.

To facilitate the voting process, officials have established 73 polling stations across the province.

Out of these, 59 polling stations have been declared highly sensitive, while 11 have been categorized as sensitive due to security concerns.

Law enforcement personnel have been deployed at polling stations to maintain order and avoid any untoward incidents during the Elections.

Election officials said monitoring teams are also active in different districts to oversee the voting process and ensure transparency.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission revealed that candidates on 45 local government seats were already elected unopposed before polling day.

These uncontested positions include eight chairman seats and six vice-chairman seats.

Political parties and independent candidates are participating in the current phase of local government Elections to secure representation in district and municipal bodies.

Analysts believe local government Elections play an important role in addressing community-level issues and improving local administration.

Residents in different districts have continued visiting polling stations throughout the day to cast their votes.

Officials urged voters to follow election rules and cooperate with polling staff to ensure a smooth voting process.

The Election Commission also advised citizens to report any irregularities through official complaint channels.

The counting process will begin after polling ends later in the evening, and unofficial results are expected to emerge gradually.

Authorities said final results will be announced after completion of the official verification process.
