The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment has warned Pakistani citizens travelling to Bahrain about strict drug-related laws. An Advisory issued for overseas workers highlights serious legal consequences for carrying banned substances.
Officials said even small items like poppy seeds are considered illegal in Bahrain. The warning is especially important for job seekers travelling for employment opportunities.
An Advisory issued by the bureau explained that narcotics possession is treated as a major criminal offence under Bahraini law. Violations can lead to arrest, prosecution, and deportation.
According to officials, Bahrain enforces strict drug control rules under Royal Decree No. 4 of 1973. The law bans cultivation, import, export, and possession of opium and related substances.
Travellers have been strongly advised to carefully check their luggage before departure. Authorities stressed that even unintentional possession can lead to serious legal trouble.
The Advisory issued also warned that offenders may face detention and long-term bans on employment opportunities in Bahrain. This could severely affect future overseas job prospects.
Officials urged passengers to remain fully aware of customs regulations before travelling. They also advised checking the list of restricted items provided by Bahrain Customs authorities.
The bureau emphasized that compliance with local laws is the responsibility of every traveller. Ignorance of regulations will not be accepted as an excuse under Bahraini law.
Authorities further recommended that job seekers verify all travel guidelines before departure. This includes reviewing official instructions and ensuring luggage is free from prohibited items.
The warning is part of ongoing efforts to protect Pakistani workers abroad. Officials said awareness campaigns are regularly conducted to prevent legal issues in foreign countries.
An Advisory issued at this time aims to reduce the risk of arrest and protect employment opportunities for overseas workers. Authorities have urged full cooperation from all travellers.
Officials concluded that strict adherence to international laws is essential for safe and successful employment abroad. They reminded citizens to act responsibly and stay informed before travelling.
