The Tehreek Tahaffuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) has announced Nationwide Protests on Friday against rising inflation, increasing petroleum prices, and the continued detention of political prisoners.
The opposition alliance also demanded the immediate transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to a hospital for medical treatment. The announcement was made by TTAP Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai through a statement shared on social media platform X.
According to party leaders, the decision to launch Nationwide Protests was taken during a leadership summit attended by opposition alliance representatives. Participants discussed the country’s economic situation, political environment, and governance issues before agreeing on a joint protest strategy.
The opposition alliance stated that inflation and fuel price increases have created serious financial pressure on the public. Leaders claimed the economic situation is worsening and criticized the government over rising living costs.
The protests will also focus on the release of political prisoners and concerns regarding the health of Imran Khan. His lawyer and Supreme Court amicus curiae Salman Safdar recently informed the court that the former prime minister had been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition.
Medical experts say the condition occurs when blood flow from the retina becomes blocked. It is often linked to health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease.
Speaking to media representatives outside Parliament House, PTI leader Asad Qaiser said the opposition parliamentary party had fully endorsed the four-point agenda of the alliance. He stated that the opposition would implement all decisions agreed during the meetings.
Qaiser further said the opposition had decided not to allow the upcoming federal budget to pass easily in parliament. He alleged that parliament had become ineffective and claimed opposition voices were being ignored.
The PTI leader also criticized the treatment of political prisoners, including lawyer Iman Mazari. He claimed several individuals were facing injustice and demanded fair legal treatment.
According to Qaiser, the opposition wants all cases against Imran Khan to be decided on merit. He also demanded that both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi should immediately be shifted to hospital facilities.
The alliance additionally raised concerns over law and order, terrorism, and economic conditions in different parts of the country. Qaiser claimed industries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were shutting down due to difficult business conditions.
He also demanded the withdrawal of recent petroleum price increases and called for removing restrictions on flour, gas, and CNG supplies.
