Sindh Government Announces 4-Day Eid-ul-Azha Holidays Across Province

The Sindh government has officially announced four-day Eid-ul-Azha Holidays across the province from May 26 to May 29, 2026. The decision will apply to government offices, local councils, autonomous bodies, and semi-autonomous institutions under the administrative control of the provincial government.

According to an official notification, the holidays will begin on Tuesday, May 26, and continue until Friday, May 29. The break will cover the Eid-ul-Azha celebrations from 9th to 12th Zil Hajj 1447 AH.

The announcement has generated excitement among citizens, as the extended Eid-ul-Azha Holidays will provide families with extra time to celebrate the religious occasion and travel during the festive period.

The Sindh government clarified that essential services and departments involved in preparations for the 2026-27 budget will remain operational during the holidays. All other government institutions will remain closed throughout the four-day break.

Earlier, the federal government had announced three-day Eid holidays from May 26 to May 28 across Pakistan. However, Sindh decided to add an extra public holiday, extending the celebrations for provincial employees and residents.

With the additional holiday, people in Sindh are expected to enjoy a longer weekend during Eid. Many citizens have already started planning family gatherings, travel, and sacrificial arrangements ahead of the holidays.

The extended Eid-ul-Azha Holidays are also expected to increase travel activity across the province. Bus terminals, railway stations, and airports may witness higher passenger traffic as people travel to their hometowns to celebrate Eid with relatives.

Business activity in major cities is likely to slow down during the four-day break, while shopping centres and cattle markets are expected to remain crowded before Eid. Authorities have also instructed departments to ensure proper arrangements for cleanliness, traffic management, and public services during the festive days.

Eid-ul-Azha is one of the most important Islamic festivals celebrated by Muslims around the world. The occasion commemorates the spirit of sacrifice and devotion associated with Prophet Ibrahim (AS).

Every year, millions of Pakistanis celebrate the festival by offering animal sacrifices, arranging family gatherings, and participating in charitable activities. The longer holiday period this year is expected to allow more time for celebrations and travel.

Officials believe the decision to extend the Eid-ul-Azha Holidays will help reduce work pressure and provide citizens with a more relaxed festive break. Many employees and students have welcomed the announcement on social media, calling it a timely relief before the start of the new financial year.
