Direct Iraq-Pakistan Flights Resume After 86-Day Suspension

Direct Flights between Iraq and Pakistan have officially resumed after an 86-day suspension caused by regional tensions in the Middle East. The restoration of air operations is being seen as a positive sign for travelers and bilateral connectivity between the two countries.

According to officials, Iraqi Airways flight IA-409 arrived in Karachi from Baghdad at 4:53 AM today. The flight carried passengers and marked the formal reopening of the direct route between Iraq and Pakistan.

Soon after the arrival, Iraqi Airways flight IA-410 departed from Karachi to Baghdad at 7:14 AM. Authorities confirmed that regular flight operations are now gradually being restored after months of disruption.

The Flights had remained suspended due to rising tensions in the region after conflict escalated following military actions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Aviation authorities had previously canceled several scheduled operations because of security concerns and instability in the region.

Officials said the last direct flight from Baghdad to Karachi had arrived on February 28. Meanwhile, the last arrival of flight IA-409 in Karachi took place on February 15 before the suspension was fully enforced.

Earlier this month, scheduled Iraqi Airways Flights on May 2 and May 3 were also canceled. Passengers faced difficulties during the suspension period, especially pilgrims and travelers regularly moving between the two countries.

Reports now suggest that Iraqi Airways plans to further expand its services in Pakistan. Sources said direct flights between Baghdad and Islamabad may begin in the near future. However, no official launch date has been announced so far.

The resumption of Flights comes at a time when diplomatic efforts in the Middle East appear to be making progress. Discussions involving the United States and Iran have reportedly moved closer to a possible peace agreement.

US President Donald Trump recently claimed that a major breakthrough had been achieved in negotiations related to regional peace. He stated that a proposed agreement with Iran is largely finalized and awaiting final approval from involved parties.

Trump also confirmed holding telephone discussions with several Middle Eastern and regional leaders. According to reports, the talks focused on reducing tensions and creating a possible framework for long-term peace in the region.

Media reports further claimed that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir played a behind-the-scenes diplomatic role in easing tensions between the United States and Iran. Reports said he remained in contact with officials from the US, Iran, and Gulf countries during recent negotiations.
