Pakistan has once again emerged as the world’s top recipient of Erasmus Mundus Scholarships, maintaining its leading position for the fifth consecutive year.
According to the latest selection data shared through official Erasmus+ channels, Pakistani students secured 98 fully funded scholarships in the 2026 cycle. This achievement placed Pakistan ahead of all other participating countries in the highly competitive international programme.
The latest results highlight the strong performance of Pakistani students on the global academic stage. The Erasmus Mundus Scholarships programme attracts thousands of applicants from around the world every year, making selection highly competitive.
Among South Asian countries, Bangladesh ranked second with 80 scholarship recipients. India followed closely with 75 students receiving scholarships. The United States secured fourth place with 68 awardees, while Italy completed the top five with 67 successful candidates.
In total, 1,872 fully funded scholarships were awarded to students from 135 countries during the latest selection cycle.
The Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters programme is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious international scholarship opportunities available today. It allows students to pursue postgraduate degrees across multiple European universities while receiving full financial support.
Students selected under the programme benefit from coverage of tuition fees, travel expenses, visa costs, and monthly living allowances. The initiative is funded by the European Union under the broader Erasmus+ framework.
Pakistan’s latest success follows strong performances in previous years. In 2025, 114 Pakistani students received scholarships through the Erasmus+ Joint Masters programme. Those students were selected from a global pool of 2,176 candidates representing 137 countries.
The country also achieved remarkable results in 2024. During that year, 189 Pakistani students secured Erasmus scholarships from a worldwide selection of 2,603 students from 137 countries.
Education experts believe these achievements reflect the growing academic strength and competitiveness of Pakistani students. Success in international scholarship programmes also helps improve educational links between Pakistan and leading universities across Europe.
