Load Shedding in Karachi Disrupts Electric Bus Operations

Load Shedding in Karachi Disrupts Electric Bus Operations

Unannounced electricity loadsheeding in Karachi has disrupted daily life and affected public transport operations across the city. The situation has also created difficulties for thousands of residents facing long power cuts.

According to the management of the Peoples Bus Service, power supply at the Mehran Depot has been suspended for the past three days. Due to this issue, the electric bus fleet has been partially affected. Authorities said hybrid buses are now being used instead of electric vehicles on several routes.

Officials confirmed that three main electric routes are linked to the Mehran Depot. These include EV1 from Malir Cantt to Sea View, EV3 from Malir Cantt to Numaish, and the R1 Pink Bus from Khokhrapar to Dockyard. These routes are now under pressure due to ongoing electricity loadsheeding.

Transport officials warned that if power supply is not restored soon, partial suspension of electric bus operations may be considered. They said continuous electricity loadsheeding is affecting charging systems and daily scheduling of buses.

Meanwhile, residents across Karachi are also suffering from extended power outages. In several areas, outages have lasted more than 12 hours. In some localities, people reported even longer disruptions, adding to public frustration.

Areas affected include Orangi Town, Korangi, Lyari, Mauripur, Lines Area, Qayyumabad, Malir, Manghopir, Keamari, Surjani, and New Karachi. Citizens in Soldier Bazaar, Hawksbay Road, and Gulshan-e-Maymar also reported frequent interruptions.

Residents said electricity loadsheeding has become more severe in recent days. Some claimed that power has been unavailable for two to three consecutive days in parts of Orangi and Baldia Town.

Protests have also emerged in several neighborhoods. People are demanding an immediate end to unscheduled electricity loadsheeding and calling for reliable power supply.

On the other hand, K-Electric has rejected claims of prolonged outages exceeding 10 hours. The utility company stated that most disruptions are due to non-payment of electricity bills and local faults.

Despite these claims, citizens continue to face hardships due to ongoing electricity loadsheeding. The situation has affected households, businesses, and public transport systems, raising concerns over urban service management in Karachi.

Authorities say efforts are underway to stabilize the power supply. However, residents remain uncertain as electricity loadsheeding continues to impact daily life across multiple parts of the city.
