A major Fire broke out at Karachi’s Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Saturday, causing panic among patients, visitors, and hospital staff. Emergency measures were taken immediately as people rushed to safety after the blaze erupted inside the facility.
According to reports, the Fire started in an air-conditioned room of the hospital. Thick smoke quickly spread through the area, prompting medical staff and patients to evacuate the affected section. Witnesses described scenes of panic as people moved away from the building to avoid any danger.
Hospital authorities responded swiftly to the incident and began efforts to control the situation. Emergency teams were also alerted to prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the hospital.
JPMC spokesperson Dr. Waqas confirmed that some hospital machinery suffered partial damage during the incident. However, he stated that no casualties or injuries were reported. The quick response by hospital staff helped ensure the safe evacuation of patients and employees from the affected area.
Officials are expected to investigate the exact cause of the Fire. Initial reports indicate that the blaze was confined to a specific section of the hospital, limiting the extent of the damage. Medical services in unaffected areas continued while authorities assessed the situation.
The incident comes just weeks after JPMC organized a large-scale fire safety and disaster preparedness workshop on May 8, 2026. The event was aimed at improving emergency response skills among medical staff, citizens, and representatives of various institutions.
During the workshop, participants received practical training on handling emergency situations, including fire outbreaks. Experts from Rescue 1122 demonstrated evacuation procedures, emergency response techniques, and the proper use of fire extinguishers.
A live disaster drill was also conducted to help participants understand how to respond during emergencies. The training focused on reducing risks and improving preparedness in public facilities such as hospitals.
Saturday’s incident highlighted the importance of such safety measures. Fortunately, the Fire was brought under control without any loss of life. Authorities are now reviewing the damage and investigating the circumstances that led to the outbreak.
