Rain Forecast Issued As Heatwave Continues Across Pakistan

Rain Forecast Issued As Heatwave Continues Across Pakistan

A new Rain forecast has brought some relief for residents of northern and central parts of Pakistan, even as intense heat continues to affect large areas of the country.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority’s National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), severe heat conditions are expected to persist from June 7 to June 12. However, the latest Rain forecast indicates that several cities in Punjab, including Lahore, may receive rain and thunderstorms on June 11 and 12.

Authorities said southern regions of Pakistan will remain under strong heat stress during the coming days. Sindh, southern Punjab, and many low-lying areas of Balochistan are expected to experience above-normal temperatures.

The advisory noted that central and southern Punjab will continue to face hot weather conditions. Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and northern Punjab are also likely to remain unusually warm between June 7 and June 10.

Despite the ongoing heatwave, the latest Rain forecast suggests changing weather conditions later in the week. Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad and several districts of northern Punjab.

Cities likely to receive rainfall include Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Lahore. Weather experts believe the rainfall could temporarily reduce temperatures in these areas.

The Rain forecast also includes parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected. Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir may receive intermittent rainfall during the same period.

In northeastern Balochistan, areas such as Zhob and Musa Khel could also witness light rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, most districts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and dry. Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar are unlikely to receive significant rainfall during the forecast period.

Apart from weather concerns, authorities have warned about the impact of rising temperatures on northern glaciers. Rapid glacier melting is increasing the risk of glacial lake outburst floods, commonly known as GLOFs.

The NEOC has also highlighted the possibility of flash floods and landslides in mountainous regions. Communities living near vulnerable valleys have been advised to remain alert and follow official safety instructions.

Disaster management authorities have urged relevant departments to enhance preparedness measures. Citizens have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during extreme weather conditions.

While the heatwave remains a major concern across much of Pakistan, the upcoming Rain forecast offers hope of temporary relief for several northern and central regions later this week.
