Acid Attack on a female doctor inside Quetta’s Civil Hospital has triggered strong protests from the medical community across Balochistan. The incident led the Young Doctors Association (YDA) to announce a boycott of out-patient departments (OPDs) at government hospitals throughout the province.
The boycott affected routine medical services on Monday. However, emergency wards remained operational to ensure critical patients continued receiving treatment.
Doctors and hospital staff expressed anger over the incident and demanded better security measures in healthcare facilities. In response to the Acid Attack, young doctors organized a protest rally in Quetta. Participants marched through the city and raised slogans against senior health officials.
The protesters called for the suspension of the Balochistan Health Secretary, the Medical Superintendent (MS) of Civil Hospital, and the hospital’s security in charge. They argued that stronger security arrangements could have helped prevent such an incident.
The YDA stated that doctors should be able to perform their duties in a safe environment. They emphasized the need for immediate action to protect healthcare workers from violence and harassment while on duty.
Meanwhile, Balochistan Home Affairs Adviser Babar Yousafzai assured doctors that the provincial government was taking the matter seriously. In a statement, he said Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti would meet representatives of the medical community after arriving in Quetta. He added that the government was prepared to consider and accept legitimate demands raised by the doctors.
According to the initial medical report, Dr. Mah Noor, who was injured in the Acid Attack, is now out of danger. Officials said her condition is stable and satisfactory. She is currently receiving medical treatment at a private hospital in Karachi.
The incident has also highlighted concerns about workplace safety in public hospitals. Many healthcare professionals have urged authorities to introduce stronger security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In a separate development, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti announced a civil award for Abdul Razzaq Tareen. The award recognizes his bravery and timely actions in helping save the female doctor’s life during the attack.
