ISLAMABAD โ The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction in Electricity Rates for consumers across Pakistan. The decision brings relief to millions of electricity users.
According to an official notification, NEPRA approved a cut of Rs1.99 per unit. This reduction has been made under the quarterly adjustment mechanism.
The adjustment applies to the period from January to March 2026. However, consumers will benefit from the revised Electricity Rates between June and August 2026.
The tariff reduction will remain effective for three months. It will apply to all power consumers across the country. This includes users of K-Electric as well.
Officials stated that the reduction in Electricity Rates will provide significant financial relief. The total impact is estimated at around Rs67.17 billion. This amount will be passed on to consumers during the implementation period.
NEPRA explained that the decision is part of its regular quarterly review process. In this system, actual electricity production costs are compared with previously approved rates. Any difference is adjusted in consumer bills.
This mechanism ensures transparency in the power tariff structure. It also helps maintain balance between actual costs and billing charges.
The latest change in Electricity Rates is expected to reduce monthly electricity bills for households and businesses. Consumers may see noticeable relief during the summer months.
Energy experts believe the reduction may slightly ease inflationary pressure. Lower power costs can support household budgets and business operations.
However, officials also noted that future adjustments will depend on fuel prices and generation costs. The power tariff system will continue to be reviewed every quarter.
