UAE Mission Suspends Midday Work Hours in Karachi Amid Intense Heatwave

The United Arab Emirates Consul General in Karachi has announced special measures to protect workers from the ongoing heatwave affecting the city. The decision comes as temperatures remain dangerously high across Karachi and surrounding areas.

UAE Consul General Dr. Bakhit Atiq directed authorities to take immediate steps for worker safety. As part of the new measures, he ordered that outdoor work be halted during the hottest hours of the day.

According to the announcement, the directive suspends work activities between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm. The aim is to reduce workersโ€™ exposure to extreme temperatures and lower the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Officials said the measure was introduced as a precaution during the ongoing heatwave. The order suspends labor-intensive activities during peak heat hours when temperatures can become dangerous for outdoor workers.

In addition to the temporary work stoppage, Dr. Atiq instructed employers to provide shaded rest areas. Workers should also have access to clean drinking water and other essential facilities. These measures are intended to improve safety and comfort during extreme weather conditions.

The consul general emphasized that protecting workers is both a humanitarian and moral responsibility. He said employee health and well-being should remain a priority during periods of severe heat.

Medical experts have also issued warnings about the current weather conditions. They advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, especially between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. This period is generally considered the hottest part of the day.

Health professionals recommend drinking plenty of water and staying in shaded locations whenever possible. They also encourage people to cover their heads and wear suitable clothing to reduce heat exposure.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has echoed similar advice. Weather officials urged residents to remain indoors unless travel is necessary. They also advised increasing water and fluid intake throughout the day.

Authorities believe the decision that suspends work during peak heat hours will help prevent cases of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Such conditions can become serious if proper precautions are not taken.

As the heatwave continues, officials are monitoring the situation closely. Workers and employers have been encouraged to follow all safety guidelines to minimize health risks and ensure workplace safety during extreme temperatures.
