A 54-year-old French woman has been rescued by police from a house in Bara tehsil of Khyber district, following allegations of prolonged domestic abuse and restrictions on her movement.
The operation was conducted after police received information about the alleged mistreatment of a foreign national living in the area. Acting on the tip-off, law enforcement officials raided the residence and took the woman into protective custody.
According to police officials, the French citizen had married a Pakistani man and had been living in Bara since 2014. Authorities stated that initial investigations indicated she had allegedly faced abuse for several years.
The woman was also reportedly prevented from leaving the house and had limited freedom of movement. Police moved quickly to ensure her safety after receiving the complaint.
The incident occurred in Khyber District, a region located in Northwestern Pakistan. Officials said the womanโs situation highlighted concerns about the protection of vulnerable individuals, especially those living in isolated communities.
During the operation, police also recovered the coupleโs four children. The family was later shifted to Peshawar for safety and further assistance.
The rescued woman reportedly expressed her wish to return to France. Following her request, diplomatic channels were contacted, and Pakistanโs Foreign Office informed the French Embassy about the matter.
Police have registered a criminal case against the womanโs husband. Further investigations are underway to establish the complete details of the allegations and determine the next legal steps.
