Australia Knock India Out of T20 World Cup with Dominant Six-Wicket Victory

Australia delivered another dominant performance in the T20 World Cup, defeating India by six wickets to finish the group stage unbeaten. The victory not only confirmed Australia’s perfect record but also ended India’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

Australia entered the match with confidence after already securing qualification for the last four. India, however, needed a win to stay alive in the T20 World Cup. Despite posting a competitive total, India could not stop Australia’s powerful batting lineup.

Batting first, India scored 170 runs after a strong finish in the final overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur played an important role with several big hits, while Jemimah Rodrigues also contributed valuable runs. The late acceleration helped India set a challenging target against the defending champions.

Earlier in the innings, Australia’s bowlers kept India’s opening pair under control. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma added 66 runs but scored at a steady pace. Australia maintained pressure through disciplined bowling before India increased the scoring rate in the closing overs.

Australia experimented with its playing combination despite already qualifying. The team made changes to its bowling attack and rested leg-spinner Alana King. The match also gave Ellyse Perry an opportunity to bowl during the powerplay.

The chase began with early setbacks for Australia. Georgia Voll was dismissed in the second over, while Phoebe Litchfield struggled to regain form after returning from injury. Beth Mooney also departed after making 22 runs, leaving Australia needing more than 100 runs in the final 11 overs.

However, Ellyse Perry and Ash Gardner completely changed the game. The experienced pair built a match-winning partnership and steadily reduced the required run rate. They attacked both pace and spin bowlers with confidence and found regular boundaries.

Perry played elegant shots through the off side, while Gardner cleared the boundary several times with powerful hitting. Their unbeaten century partnership removed any pressure and took the match away from India.

Both batters reached half-centuries before Australia comfortably chased down the target with an over to spare. Georgia Wareham hit the winning boundary to complete another impressive victory.

The result had major consequences in the T20 World Cup standings. India’s campaign ended with three wins from five matches, while South Africa progressed to the semi-finals alongside Australia after finishing with four victories.

Australia’s latest win also sent a strong message to the remaining teams. Even after making several changes to the lineup, they produced a clinical performance against a strong Indian side. Their unbeaten run has strengthened their position as one of the favourites to lift the T20 World Cup trophy.
