PIA Officially Comes Under New Management After Privatization

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) officially entered a new chapter on Monday after management of the national carrier was transferred to PIA Equity Ltd. The company is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established by the Arif Habib-led consortium following the successful privatization of the airline.

The transfer marks the formal beginning of the airline’s operations under its new owners. The consortium said it aims to modernize PIA, improve operational performance, and enhance passenger services through long-term investments and management reforms.

According to the new management, PIA Equity Ltd will inject Rs. 125 billion in fresh equity into the airline. The investment will fully capitalize the company and support several improvement projects over the coming years.

The funds will be used to modernize the airline’s fleet and improve overall service quality. The management also plans to strengthen operational efficiency and restore the airline’s position in regional and international aviation markets.

Officials said the investment is designed to help PIA compete more effectively with other airlines while offering better services to passengers. The company believes fleet upgrades and operational improvements will increase reliability and customer satisfaction.

The chairman of PIA Equity Ltd said public trust cannot be restored simply through a change in ownership. He emphasized that confidence must be earned through consistent performance, improved service standards, and reliable operations over time.

The new management acknowledged the airline’s long history as Pakistan’s national flag carrier. It stated that preserving this legacy remains an important part of its future plans while introducing reforms to meet modern aviation standards.

The consortium also highlighted its commitment to raising service quality across all areas of the airline. This includes improving the passenger experience, increasing operational efficiency, and making strategic investments in the business.

The privatization of PIA represents a significant step in the government’s efforts to reform state-owned enterprises. The transition to private management is expected to bring greater financial stability and support long-term growth.

Industry observers believe the fresh capital injection could help the airline address operational challenges and strengthen its competitive position. Investments in fleet modernization and improved customer service are expected to play a key role in the airline’s future development.
