Trump Receives High-Profile Welcome in Ankara as NATO Leaders Hold Key Security Talks

ANKARA โ€“ US President Trump received a high-profile welcome from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Tuesday. The visit comes as world leaders gather for a two-day NATO summit focused on growing global security challenges.

President Erdogan personally welcomed Trump upon his arrival at Esenboga Airport. The gesture highlighted the importance Tรผrkiye placed on the visit and the ongoing partnership between the two NATO allies.

Following the airport reception, a formal state ceremony was scheduled at the Presidential Complex. After the ceremony, Erdogan and Trump were expected to hold private talks. Delegation-level meetings were also planned to discuss major regional and international issues.

The discussions are expected to cover defence cooperation, regional stability, and broader international security matters. After completing their meetings, Erdogan and Trump are scheduled to address the media during a joint press conference.

The NATO summit has attracted senior political and military leaders from across the alliance. The gathering comes at a time when several global conflicts and security concerns continue to challenge member countries.

Alongside the political meetings, military officials also held important discussions in Ankara. Turkish Chief of General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu met with US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine.

General Caine was welcomed with full military honours at the Turkish General Staff headquarters. He inspected the honour guard after the national anthems of Tรผrkiye and the United States were played. The two military leaders later held closed-door talks on defence and security cooperation.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed confidence ahead of the summit. He said the meeting in Ankara would send a strong message of NATO’s unity during a period of rising international tensions.

Speaking before leaving Berlin, Merz described NATO as a vital pillar of freedom and security for its member states. He also said European allies are prepared to play a larger role within the alliance.

According to Merz, European countries are ready to increase defence spending and strengthen military capabilities. He said these efforts would help reinforce NATO’s European pillar and improve collective security.

The Ankara summit is expected to influence NATO’s future strategy on emerging security threats. Leaders are discussing ways to improve cooperation and strengthen the alliance in response to changing geopolitical conditions.
