Trump has accused Iran of destabilizing the Middle East and declared that the United States’ truce with Tehran is no longer in effect. The remarks came during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said Iran had played a destabilizing role in the region for the past 47 years. He claimed that recent developments had changed the situation and alleged that the United States had significantly weakened Iran’s leadership.
The US president stated that a regime change had taken place in Iran. He also claimed that the United States had “knocked out” the Iranian leadership. According to Trump, Iran would no longer be able to threaten stability across the Middle East.
Trump further accused Tehran of repeatedly violating agreements. He said any future deal with Iran would be a waste of time because, according to him, the existing ceasefire had effectively ended. He added that Iran had failed to honor its commitments on a regular basis.
The US president also alleged that Iran launched drone and missile attacks against ships in the Strait of Hormuz the previous day. He claimed additional strikes targeted vessels after the initial attacks. However, he did not provide further details while making the remarks.
Warning of possible military action, Trump said the United States could launch another strike against Iran later the same day. He expressed dissatisfaction with Iran’s recent actions and warned that Tehran would face consequences if its behavior continued.
The latest comments reflect rising tensions between Washington and Tehran. Trump’s remarks suggest that relations between the two countries remain strained despite previous diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
During the same appearance, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Zelensky said he held detailed talks with Trump on several important issues affecting his country.
Zelensky expressed hope that the US president could play a meaningful role in helping achieve a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. He said Ukraine’s defense remains the government’s highest priority as the conflict continues.
Trump also spoke about international conflicts beyond the Middle East. He said he had contributed to ending several disputes around the world and would continue efforts to support peace initiatives. He added that securing a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine remains one of his goals.
