According to university officials, the confrontation began at the Department of International Relations. The dispute reportedly started after members of one student group allegedly assaulted students linked to a rival organisation.

The situation quickly turned violent. Both groups were reported to have used sticks, batons, and iron rods during the clash. The fighting spread within the department before security personnel intervened.

University sources said five people, including a teacher, were injured during the incident. However, police stated that seven people, including university teachers, suffered injuries in the violence.

Police also confirmed that female teachers were among those injured. The injured received medical assistance following the clash.

The violence triggered an immediate security response at the University of Karachi. Police and Rangers reached the campus to restore order and prevent further unrest.

University authorities initially confirmed that four students had been taken into custody. Later, police said six workers of the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) had been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events. Authorities are also working to identify everyone involved in the violence.

Officials said statements from witnesses and university staff are being collected as part of the investigation. Evidence from the scene will also be reviewed before further legal action is taken.
