Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif addressed an election rally in Muzaffarabad on Tuesday. During his speech, he announced several development promises for Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) if his party wins the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections.
Speaking alongside Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Nawaz Sharif expressed his strong connection with the people of Azad Kashmir and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He said he wanted to play a direct role in improving the region’s infrastructure and public services.
In a light-hearted remark, Nawaz Sharif said he would ask Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to appoint him as the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir if PML-N secures victory in the elections. He said he wanted to personally lead the mission of transforming the region.
The former prime minister also announced an ambitious development agenda. He pledged to increase the budget of Azad Kashmir by ten times if PML-N forms the next government. According to him, the region deserves the same level of development and public facilities that are being introduced in Punjab.
During his address, he questioned why Muzaffarabad still lacks a motorway despite being the capital of Azad Kashmir. He said the city should have become one of Pakistan’s leading urban centers over the years.
He proposed the construction of a modern motorway along the Jhelum River. According to him, the project would improve road connectivity, support tourism, and encourage trade throughout the region.
Nawaz Sharif said he discussed Azad Kashmir’s development with Maryam Nawaz during their journey to Muzaffarabad. He said he told her that the pace of development seen in Punjab should also be introduced in Azad Kashmir.
He stressed that residents of the region deserve modern infrastructure, better healthcare, improved transportation, and enhanced public services. He added that future projects would focus on addressing long-standing issues affecting local communities.
As part of his public welfare plan, Nawaz Sharif announced that 10 green buses would be provided for Muzaffarabad’s public transport system. The initiative aims to improve transportation facilities for residents and reduce travel difficulties within the city.
He also promised to launch 15 mobile hospitals across different parts of Azad Kashmir. These mobile healthcare units are expected to improve medical access for people living in remote and underserved areas.
The PML-N leader further said that he would regularly visit the region if his party forms the government. He pledged to travel to Azad Kashmir every three months to review development projects and monitor the implementation of election promises.
According to Nawaz Sharif, these regular visits would help ensure that government projects are completed on time and public commitments are fulfilled. He said the party remains committed to improving infrastructure, healthcare, transportation, and economic opportunities for the people of Azad Kashmir.

The announcements were made as part of PML-N’s election campaign ahead of the upcoming Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections. The party hopes its development agenda will gain support from voters across the region.
