Petrol Pump Owners Suspend Nationwide Strike After Talks with Government

ISLAMABAD: Petrol Pump Owners have suspended their planned nationwide strike following successful negotiations with the federal government. The decision means fuel stations across Pakistan will continue operating without disruption.

The announcement was made on Wednesday after a meeting between representatives of the All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik.

Following the discussions, Petrol Pump Owners confirmed that fuel supplies would remain uninterrupted across the country. The decision was also supported by the Petroleum Dealers Association during a joint press conference.

Earlier, petroleum dealers had announced plans to close filling stations for 24 hours. The strike was scheduled to begin at 6:00 AM on Thursday and continue until 6:00 AM on Friday.

The planned protest was intended to oppose the government’s decision to introduce a daily fuel price revision mechanism. Dealers had expressed concerns about the impact of the new pricing system on their business operations and profit margins.

After negotiations, both sides agreed to continue discussions instead of proceeding with the strike. As a result, motorists will not face fuel shortages or service interruptions for the time being.

Speaking to the media, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government understands the concerns raised by the dealers. He assured stakeholders that their issues would be addressed through consultation.

The minister said discussions would focus on the profit margins of petroleum dealers. According to him, the government will prepare a summary regarding the proposed margin revision and submit it to the federal cabinet for approval.

He added that any decision would be taken after consulting all relevant stakeholders. The government aims to reach a balanced solution that addresses the concerns of dealers while protecting consumers.

The minister also announced that another round of talks with representatives of the petroleum sector will take place after two weeks. The meeting will review the proposed daily fuel pricing mechanism and discuss possible adjustments.

Petrol Pump Owners welcomed the government’s willingness to continue dialogue. They said postponing the strike would provide both sides with an opportunity to reach a mutually acceptable solution.

The Petroleum Dealers Association also supported the outcome of the meeting. Representatives said continued discussions are the best way to resolve issues affecting the petroleum sector.

With the strike now suspended, petrol pumps across Pakistan will continue normal operations. Motorists can purchase petrol and diesel without any interruption.

The latest development has eased concerns about possible fuel shortages in different parts of the country. Authorities and dealer representatives are expected to continue negotiations in the coming weeks.
