LAHORE: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh Lahore Rain forecast, predicting widespread monsoon showers and thunderstorms from Saturday to Monday. The weather system is expected to lower temperatures but may also increase the risk of urban flooding, strong winds, and lightning across several parts of the country.
According to the latest advisory, Lahore Rain is expected to continue throughout the weekend. The city will remain mostly cloudy with periods of rain and thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures are likely to stay between 33°C and 35°C on Saturday. The mercury is expected to fall to between 32°C and 34°C on Sunday and Monday due to continuous rainfall.
The PMD said the fresh monsoon spell could affect daily life in Lahore and many other cities. Heavy rain over a short period may lead to water accumulation in low-lying areas. Authorities warned that urban flooding is possible if intense downpours continue.
Apart from Lahore, cities including Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Jhang, Faisalabad, Khanewal, and Multan may also experience heavy rainfall. Some areas of Sindh are expected to receive similar weather, increasing the possibility of localized flooding.
The weather department also warned that hill torrents could become active in the Dera Ghazi Khan hill streams. Seasonal nullahs in northeastern Balochistan may also witness rising water levels during the ongoing monsoon spell.
Officials cautioned that strong winds and lightning could damage vulnerable infrastructure. Solar panels, electricity poles, billboards, trees, and weak buildings are considered at higher risk during severe weather conditions. Residents have been urged to remain careful while travelling and avoid unnecessary movement during heavy rain.
Meteorologists explained that the current weather pattern is being driven by a low-pressure area over southwestern Rajasthan and nearby regions. This system continues to pull moisture-filled monsoon currents into southern and central Pakistan, creating favourable conditions for widespread rainfall.
The department advised citizens to stay informed through official weather updates. Motorists should drive carefully on slippery and waterlogged roads. People living in flood-prone areas should remain alert and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert ahead of the third spell of monsoon rains. She instructed commissioners, deputy commissioners, and field officers to ensure complete preparedness and strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The chief minister also ordered immediate drainage of rainwater from affected areas. She directed WASA teams to continue monitoring drainage operations without interruption. PDMA, Rescue 1122, district emergency centres, and other relevant agencies have been instructed to keep staff, machinery, and emergency equipment ready.
Authorities have also been asked to clear water from low-lying areas, monitor drains and nullahs, and secure open manholes. Safety measures at construction sites have been strengthened, while officials have been told to closely inspect weak and old buildings that may become dangerous during heavy rain.
